Background, history, commissioner of the work

The work formed part of a series of sculpture, moving image and site-responsive performances for my Arts Council England funded solo exhibition Spatial Drifts in the Central Court at Leeds Art Gallery from Jul 17th until Oct 16th 2021. The work was produced using re-constructed spatial material recorded from the Central Court architecture, using a series of mixed media tools and systems, during the stages of uncovering the space while Leeds Art Gallery was closed for renovation in 2017.

Thematic/contextual information

Re-constructed Space: Central Court II is one section of four freestanding pieces that connect together to form a four part mould, cast in silicone to produce an inflatable sculpture also shown in Spatial Drifts at Leeds Art Gallery. Re-constructed Space: Central Court captures the lost fragments of the Central Court architecture, while the gallery was in a period of transition during the uncovering of the space in 2017, re-constructed to form new parallel experiences of the gallery architecture
