Background, history, commissioner of the work
These works were made during lockdown with items found in our local market. The first pair I made, Coptic Echo and Adoration, were made for a two person show at Unit One Gallery/Workshop in London W10 with Juliette Dominati. The remainder were made for a three person show with Bo Lee Gallery at Beckenham Place Mansion, London 'In Conversation Part 1' with Adeline de Monseignat and Benjamin Cohen.
Thematic/contextual information
The works are made of found objects with jesmonite. All have colour embedded in the jesmonite, and some are painted. Each colour and surface is modulated to match the form and create relationships. They were sourced in my local market in Shepherd's Bush (one of the few places open during our lockdown). Themes - the familiarity of objects and how we notice things, consumerism, global trade, the value of objects, colour in space, relationships.
