Background, history, commissioner of the work
Created for 'Making Beauty' exhibition at Djanogly Gallery and produced during a year-long research project supported by an arts grant from the Wellcome Trust and the exhibition by the Arts Council England. Working in collaboration with digestive disease specialists at the University College Hospital (London), University of East Anglia (Norwich) and University of Nottingham, honing in on studies around regenerative medicine.
Thematic/contextual information
Stitched copper wire which lines are derived from analysis of action in the human bowel.
Inspired by models and techniques from innovative technology as witnessed in labs and specialist hospital units. Inspired by high resolution, invasive, optical manometry that detects pressure changes inside the bowel. Drawing of a condensed manometric recording of the colon of a single subject over a 2-h period.
