Background, history, commissioner of the work

I made this sculpture for a group show - 'Abstraction from Architecture' which I curated for Edinburgh Printmakers in 2015. The show included another three artists - Andrew Mackenzie, Carla Scott Fullerton and George Charman, all artists whose work is based on themes surrounding architecture, and man-made structures.

Thematic/contextual information

This work was made after a research trip in Texas where I visited the University of Texas McDonald Observatory. I was fascinated by this small cluster of buildings and telescope structures within an otherwise very remote area, the home of incredible scientific equipment and research. I took a large quantity of research photographs on site which I used to produce a series of prints, drawings and sculptures on my return home.
