Background, history, commissioner of the work
I often collect objects and materials that I find interesting, with the intention of using them at some point in my practice when the inspiration arrives. Artworks are created and composed of these items and more may be added as the work progresses and new items or materials are salvaged. This self-initiated sculpture is composed of studio waste or spare materials from my studio and that of the late Phiilip King, whom I had the pleasure of assisting from 2016 to 2021.
Thematic/contextual information
The work is an abstract composition with strong geometric forms but also including various items and materials that I found appealing and interesting. The challenge is to make these things work together - to have a relationship whilst also retaining their own voice. The title came about as I realised that all of the elements are from mine and Phillips studio, rather than salvages from the street for example, and I can account for each item with a story of its origin and source.
