Suitable Locations for the Work
Background, history, commissioner of the work
Element2 is taking its shape from architectural details you find in grand old houses. This is a series made in response to an interest in décor and the human impulse it is to fill objects and spaces with ornaments. This piece is based around the theme of a coving. The repeated shape is ambiguous pointing to something perhaps bodily; one response is that it is commenting on the masculinity of this type of architecture
The piece is meant to go into a dialogue with the space it is put in. It makes an interesting contrast to both a modern building and the old grand style. Ideally the work is installed high up or in the periphery, rather than centrally on the wall.
Ideally the work is installed high up or in the periphery, rather than centrally on the wall. I like that the viewer might not see it straight away when entering the room and are not directed towards it.
