Background, history, commissioner of the work
The original 160 brick installation 'Echoes' was created in response to my final year degree show at City of Glasgow College - BA Hons Contemporary Art Practice.
Exhibited at the SSA Annual Exhibition 2016, Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh, and
winner of the House for an Art Lover Exhibition Prize.
Thematic/contextual information
The remaining 68/70 bricks are from 'Echoes', part of my final degree show installation 'You can't look back because it's gone', which looked at overall themes of industrial archaeology, de-industrialisation and urban regeneration in the West of Scotland. The familiar forms are rendered useless by the fragile qualities accorded them and are no substitute for the real. These are ghosts from extinct industrial brickworks that were once common in and around Glasgow and the West of Scotland.
