Background, history, commissioner of the work
Coffee/Plastic is a studio piece made as part of a set of work about monocultures and consumer society.
This work has been on show at the Art Hound Gallery Cambridge.
Thematic/contextual information
The theme of this work is monocultures and western habits such as coffee drinking and eating chocolate. It relates to the work Cocoa.I am exploring these ideas as they are some of my favourite habits but also they have great environmental impact on the planet.
In this piece I also referenced the shapes of a folded plastic bag as I like to play with the juxtaposition of two different elements. The colour of the stone and forms within the sculpture also remind me of melting ice.
