About the Artwork
Owen explores relationships between humans, animals and the natural world. This work is based on the Eurasian Beaver, now extinct in the UK, and is a new hybrid creation, half man half creature.
Background, history, commissioner of the work
Based on the Eurasian beaver that was made extinct in the UK. Billy the Kit is a new hybrid of my creation, half man half creature. With feet cast in resin from moulds taken of my own hands, these become transformed into red alien feet. Billy is presented with a broken old mirror into which he stares. This work was created for an exhibition at GSA in 2012 whilst studying on the Masters in Fine Art Practice Sculpture.
