‘Doing Data’ is a series of experimental sculptures and support structures which draw parallels between creative practice and data-driven processes. They are made from things labelled ‘offcuts and remnants’ in the database of all of the things in my studio. These were randomly allocated into groups to make each work. My making strategies were devised from ways of reframing gaps and errors as space for reconfiguration and new approaches. Each sculpture is accompanied by a datasheet that describes the materials and strategies used. The supports for the sculptures point to an underlying question of my project: should the thing conform to the structure, or should the structure adapt to the thing?
