Transforming Spaces: Installation with Outer Spaces
We’re delighted to unveil a new window display featuring sculptures by renowned Scottish artist Kenny Hunter in collaboration with Outer Spaces, located at Trongate, Glasgow. This project is part of our wider mission at Sculpture Placement Group to bring stored artworks into public view—connecting artists, artworks, and audiences by revitalising underused spaces.
At the heart of this display is a specially commissioned backdrop designed by artist Heather McDonald. The backdrop is part of an innovative system we developed to showcase sculpture in temporary shopfront spaces, enhancing visibility for the public while providing privacy for artists working inside. By transforming vacant windows into flexible exhibition spaces, this project highlights the role of art in reimagining our high streets and fostering new encounters with contemporary sculpture.
About the Display System
The backdrop system was created to address key challenges of displaying sculpture in non-traditional settings. Designed to be affordable, reusable, and environmentally sustainable, it ensures that artworks are presented to maximum effect, with flexible solutions for different spaces and lighting needs. This pilot installation at Trongate is a step towards revitalising shop units across Scotland—making art part of everyday life while supporting artists in creating sustainable careers.
