Unhooking A Torment Must Begin Somewhere
The work, a chain link comprised of several interlocking links connected by a hook and eye is a deeply personal piece. It is part of an ongoing series examining familial relationships. In a sense it continues to be a catharsis; the materials emblematic and the interweaving and hooking/unhooking, symbolically referencing the unravelling of a relationship. The construction of the piece was both arduous and time consuming and involved the knitting together of seemingly disconnected materials; Rubber, gold plastic, ribbons, wore, foam and threads. In a sense the process of construction became meditative and self-consciously ritualistic.
