Thematic/contextual information
‘Wither’ is a sculptural installation comprised of 6 steel rods which offer a sequence that implies the process of withering of a stem. It could also be read as a universal cycle of ageing in human beings starting off with a straight strong spine that curls onto itself over time only to resemble the object we ourselves use in old age - a cane. It sometimes seems we echo the objects we use.
‘Wither’ aims to address the main principles of Wabi-Sabi philosophy whereby beauty lies in the imperfect.
