Thematic/contextual information
Up and under was part of a project exploring themes of hierarchies and power. I used the peacock as the protagonist in my bronze sculptures to highlight its aristocratic associations and as a metaphor for pride with its imperious and ostentatious bearing; the associations of splendour and beauty possibly inspiring the English upper classes to display them as pets/mascots and status symbols for their country estates.
