Background, history, commissioner of the work
Part of a series of studio-based works made between 2010-2014 that explored the notion that 'nothing is destroyed only transformed'. Matter can only be changed.
Thematic/contextual information
A small table was the starting point for this sculpture and provides a plinth like base for the composite wood block that sits on top. What is not so obvious is the solid wood block is the equivalent dimension and volume as the table and the space that it occupies, thus creating a simple balance and harmony between mass and space.
