Background, history, commissioner of the work
Made for the exhibition "Andiamo" which I curated for the Royal Scottish Academy in 2021.
NB Though the total weight of the work is around 80kg, it is made up of 28 small pieces each weighing significantly less.
Thematic/contextual information
As with much of my work the piece is about the passage of time; each row reflects the solstices and equinoxes throughout a year.
In this case I was also exploring the way meaning is coded into architectural form, particularly in the architecture of Italian medieval and Renaissance churches where rhythm of form and colour are used to express passage of time, passage of form through space becoming a metaphor for passage of time.
