Background, history, commissioner of the work
Another piece of studio-based work that explored the notion that 'nothing is destroyed only transformed'. In this instance a natural form is used instead of a domestic object.
Thematic/contextual information
This work plays with our perception of what is ‘real‘, more specifically what is ‘natural’. The piece at first glance, appears to be a known, familiar form but is in fact a subtle, understated reconstruction. A “copy without an original” (Baudrillard).
Firstly, it is made up of many segments. This reconstructed branch bears no resemblance to the original which was twisted and contorted. Cut up into sections it was reconstructed into a vertically orientated form which was then cast into resin.
