Background, history, commissioner of the work
Big Bouffant is a singular work of a series of three pieces, originally produced for a exhibition Test 123, curated by John Bunker in 2019, London. It has since been shown at The Biscuit Factory in Bermondsey, London and was selected for the winter show 2019 at the Cello Factory, London.
I am interested in the objects that surround us in everyday life, objects that we use and observe. The simplicity of the Big Bouffant was not only familiar but was also open to further consideration, in a way, a kind of artistic exploitation. There were two facets to the work. One primarily a fun element that evoked a sense of frivolity and lightness. The other, that the Big Bouffant was enlarged to a scale that was provocative in the sense that the metal bend, its function to secure, hold and twist.
