Background, history, commissioner of the work
A self initiated sculpture that began as a test piece for checking a suitable adhesive for use with marble and steel. The result of the test grew and developed steadily with intuitive decision making and the addition of elements made from found materials and studio offcuts.
Thematic/contextual information
I tried to create a link or conversation between the materials through their shape and their inherent qualities. For example, the three central vertical elements are hardwood but because of their fine machine cut finish and colour their appear like rusty steel - also used elsewhere in the work. Most of the materials have a hard, industrial feel and I was keen to keep this link between them. I am interested in making abstract sculpture that functions soley without external references.
