Background, history, commissioner of the work
Part of a series of studio-based works made between 2010-2014 that explored the notion that 'nothing is destroyed only transformed'. Matter can only be changed.
Thematic/contextual information
Spilt Milk started out as a familiar domestic dining table. A process of deconstruction then ensued. An improvised approach evolved as the reconstruction took place. The modus operandi was to use all the material that made up the object, adding nothing and taking nothing away. This work represents an important transition between earlier narrative works and work that engages more with process, the materiality of objects and the flux and flow of the physical world.
