Background, history, commissioner of the work
This work was made during my MA at the Royal college of Art and was exhibited as part of the 2021 RCA show online.
Thematic/contextual information
In this work I use resist materials to preserve areas where my brush has made contact with the ceramic, I then erase areas left untouched; utilising the materiality of ceramic as a way to almost fossilise the traces of making. The work engages with ideas surrounding our ever-changing memories of place, a sense of re-working or filling in of fact and fiction. The image left behind from the layering and erasing process alludes to a landscape; a tree and path, perhaps once a whole forest.
