Background, history, commissioner of the work

Polished bronze sculpture cast from a handmade nest of natural materials. Originally created for Duncan of Jordanstone's 2021 Degree Show, the work has since been shown through The Royal Scottish Academy and The Society of Scottish Artists.

Thematic/contextual information

The work stemmed from research of the down feather industry. Inspired through my connection with the practicalities and aesthetic pleasures of nature. Memento mori and the continuum of materials pose and essential element to this work and my practice. The work is intended to question the human relationship of attractions and curiosities in nature and whether these relationships have ethical boundaries. Encapsulating a fragment of nature, in a space between comfort and vulnerability.
