This work formed part of the Map-i; Mercator Revisited exhibition at the Mercator Museum in St Niklaas, Belgium in 2013 and is a series of glass pieces inspired by an artist-in-residency at the Mercator Museum in 2012. This work was supported by Creative Scotland, University of Sunderland, National Glass Centre and Mercator Museum. A work from the exhibition was purchased for its permanent collection.
Thematic/contextual information
‘Micro Macro (Mercator)’ juxtaposes a large map of the world on a Mercator projection with the same image on much smaller scale; a process which comes at the expense of entire countries disappearing; Britain, Iceland, Japan, Indonesia… The same image exposes a different version of ‘reality’.
