Background, history, commissioner of the work
This series of three works were produced for the 6th edition of Contemporary Sculpture Fulmer, in Buckinghamshire, in 2022. They were retained on site for the 7th and final edition of the annual exhibition which closed in Summer 2023.
Thematic/contextual information
Three sapling-like 'trees' that stand just over head height. Together they form a canopy of dappled light and soft shadows. Closer in sprit to paper origami than steel, the hard material is treated with care and precision; cutting folding and spot welding each piece in place, and growing each sculpture in a very intuitive way. The canopy of each ‘tree’ grows from a single element at the stem, and consequently the sculptures are gently ‘sprung’, subtly vibrating in the passing breeze.
