Background, history, commissioner of the work

The work is part of an installation titled I Fell on Hope Street. I developed this project while undertaking an MLitt in Fine Art Practice at GSA.

Thematic/contextual information

The work explores Polari and Kaliarda subculture slangs. I investigated Jacques Rancière's theory on the separation of signal and noise where sounds produced by opulent males were defined as speech, whereas women, children and slaves were imagined to be noise. The work also stems from my interest in gender constructs and patterns of gender development in early childhood.
