Background, history, commissioner of the work
Element is taking its shape from architectural details you find in grand old houses.
This is a series made in response to an interest in décor and the human impulse it is to fill objects and spaces with ornaments. This piece is based around the theme of a cornice, but the corner is moved further into the wall and as such creating a 3d shape. The repeated shape is ambiguous pointing to something perhaps bodily; one response is that it is commenting on the masculinity of this type of architecture
Thematic/contextual information
The piece is meant to go into a dialogue with the space it is put in. It makes an interesting contrast to both a modern building and the old grand style.
