Background, history, commissioner of the work

Consumption was made during my last 12 months studying sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art. I have exhibited it at Visual Arts Scotland in February at the RSA where it won two awards. Now, it is hanging in my studio getting very dusty and taking up too much space, i would love to see it exhibited somewhere else and feel the the cyclical nature of Sculpture Placement Group and my work is a great fit.

Thematic/contextual information

The work is made from 160 unwanted wooden coat hangers that I intercepted from landfill. Through repetition and reflection, I endeavour to raise awareness of our collective responsibility towards the environment, the ethical use of materials, the implications of our daily choices and to disrupt the inertia of our throwaway culture. The modularity the sculpture is intentional, facilitating the practicalities of transport and assembly, but also imbues my work with a cyclical narrative.
