Background, history, commissioner of the work
Part of a series of studio based works made between 2010-2014 that explored the notion that 'nothing is destroyed only transformed'. Matter can only be changed.
This shape shifting started with a familiar object, usually a piece of furniture. In this instance ‘9x9x137’ is morphed from a small table, cut up into smaller pieces and rebuilt but with all the space removed. The modus operandi is to use all the material that made up the object, adding nothing and taking nothing away. This grey floor-based work carries its actual dimensions as its title and attempts to deal with the materiality of objects and the flux and flow of the physical world.
